ahead of time, on time, behind timeと関連語

この３つの表現は、文字を見ても予想がつくと思いますが、関連語も含めて纏めておきます。

ahead of time 定刻前に
on time 定刻に、時間通りに
behind time　遅れて

[on time]at the correct time or the time that was arranged
　　　　（正確な時刻に、または、決められて時刻に）

[ahead of/behind time] earlier or later than the time when something happens, should be done etc（何かが起きる時刻や、為されるべき時刻よりも早いか遅いか）

ここで、疑問に思うのが、in timeです。

Longmanの英英辞典より
[in time]before the time by which it is necessary for something to be done
（何かがなされるのに必要な時刻よりも前に）

in timeは、日本語の辞書だと「～に間に合って」という意味になります。

カテゴリーとして、ahead of timeの範囲の中に入りますね。

Will you be able to finish it in time?
（それを時間までに終わらすことができますか？）

Jack was worried about whether he’d be able to get there on time.
（ジャックは彼が（決められた）時間にそこに着くことができるかどうか心配していた）

on time は、時間ぴったりのニュアンス、in timeは時間に余裕があるという感じになるのでしょう。
