exerciseは、「運動・練習」という意味だけではない

Longmanの英英辞典の最初の説明は以下のようになっています。

目的語には、動物（犬など）、鍛えたい体の部分などを入れることができます。

doは、exerciseに修飾語が付くときに使われるというのが一般的なようです。ただ、いろいろと調べると修飾語を付けない場合も検索すると出てきます。

■exerciseとpracticeの違いについて
Q&Aのサイトに分かりやすい回答がありました（以下引用）。
Where sports are involved, “exercise” usually means to strengthen muscles related to a sport. “Practice” means to attempt to improve game specific skills and tactics. It often involves a “practice game”.

practiceは、英語、楽器、プレゼンなど、いろいろな場面で使えますね。
